Gus gets his interior fixed and goes for a nice long ride...

August 2001 - I've finished with the interior work. The seats are all in good shape now and the door panels as well. I got a lot of mileage out of the $10.75 bolt of blue cord. I also added armrests. Between the shoulder belts, the armrests, and the firmer seats (3 old pillows' worth of polyfill stuffed into the weary springs!) my spouse is now much more willing to go for a ride. The dog also likes it because unlike the modern cars with the buckets, she has her place in the middle of the bench. And the cowl vent brings good smells in to her without having to hang her head out the window. Note: driving around town in a bright blue 1941 Plymouth with a cute little 7 pound Pomeranian leaning out the passenger side is NOT the way to keep a low profile.

Longest trip yet - over 100 miles each way to Osprey Dominion vinyard on the north fork of Long Island. Finally understand that I can rev this engine higher than I've wanted to. Actually did 70 at one point on the LIE passing a disabled school bus before dropping back to my more comfortable 50. This bus'll run if I let it.
